The main operation steps of PCD disc-shaped tool using reciprocating wire EDM wire cutting machine are as follows:

  • Clean the disc-shaped tool and install it on the A-axis of the machine tool. Rotate the A-axis to turn any tooth to the center of the A-axis.
  • Measure the index value of each tooth of the disc tool and automatically record it in the control system register.
  • Import the disc-shaped tool processing graphics in the CAD software, and perform the cutting path conversion, as shown in Figure 11: Convert the graphics to the processing path by specifying the threading point, cut-in point, cutting direction, etc., and then input the path file Name and store.
  • Enter the CAM automatic programming interface, check “Machining cutter teeth”, first input various parameters of the PCD cutter tool (such as relief angle, face angle, rake angle, side relief angle, cutter tooth diameter, etc.), and then select the required processing The tool CAD graphics (DXF file) of the tool, then input the number of teeth, the program name, click “Generate Program” to automatically generate the processing program, and finally execute the program on the processing screen to realize the automatic processing of the entire cutter tooth.
  • Use a projector to magnify the image 20 times and compare it with the processing drawings to detect the shape error of each tooth. The cutting length of each tooth is 17 mm, and it needs to be cut 3 times. The right side and left side of the cutter teeth are processed separately. First, the U-axis is inclined in the negative direction to process the right side. The processing time is 6 minutes for each tooth, and the total of 24 teeth requires 144 minutes; then the U-axis is positive. Inclined machining of the left side relief angle, the machining time for each tooth is 1.5 min, and the total machining time for 24 teeth is 36 min, and the machining time for the entire cutter is 180 min. However, it takes about 5 hours to use the electric discharge grinding method. Compared with this method, the processing efficiency is increased by about 40%. After processing, the end face runout error of the 24 teeth of the entire PCD disc tool is less than 0.015 mm, and the radial runout The error is less than 0.02 mm.
