Today we mainly from two aspects to explain the reason of drawing die rapid wear; The first reason is because of the drawing dies itself quality problem, the second reason is the use of improper drawing process.
1. The rapid wear of the carbide drawing die is caused by the processing quality of the die itself
The unsymmetrical inlay between the drawing die blank and the die steel sleeve, the uneven distribution of the inlaid carbide steel sleeve and the gap between them easily lead to U-shaped cracks in the process of wire drawing.
In the process of laser drilling, the dimples of diamond die will appear in the process of diamond drawing if the sintering marks are not cleaned up or the force is uneven.
The unreasonable pass design of the die, too small opening of the inlet lubrication area and too long sizing belt will lead to poor lubrication in the drawing process, resulting in accelerated wear and even fragmentation of the die.
2. Improper use of factors in wire drawing leads to rapid wear of die
The compression ratio of drawing process surface is too large, which leads to cracks or breakage of the die. Most of the cracks or fractures are caused by the release of internal stress. In any material structure, the existence of internal stress is inevitable. The internal stress generated during wire drawing can enhance the microcrystalline structure of the die. However, if the compression ratio of the drawing surface is too large, it can not be lubricated in time, so that the temperature rise is too high, part of the material on the die surface will be removed, and the stress of the microcrystalline structure will be greatly increased, making it more likely to crack or break.
The asymmetry between the drawing axis of wire rod and the center line of die hole leads to uneven stress effect on wire rod and drawing die. The impact of mechanical vibration also causes high stress peak value on wire rod and drawing die, both of which will accelerate the wear of die.
It is easy to cause fatigue loss of diamond drawing die prematurely and produce annular groove to accelerate the wear of die hole.
Rough wire surface, oxide layer, sand, or other impurities on the surface will make the die wear too fast. When the wire passes through the die hole, the hard and brittle oxide layer and other adhesion impurities will cause the die hole of the wire drawing die to wear quickly and scratch the surface of the wire rod like abrasives.
Poor lubrication or metal debris impurities in the lubricant cause die wear. If the lubrication is not smooth, the surface temperature of die hole will rise too fast, and die grains will fall off, which will lead to die damage. When the lubricating fluid is not clean, especially contains metal debris falling off during drawing, it is easy to scratch the surface of die hole and wire rod.
