Why we choose a spiral cutter head ?

In recent years, the spiral cutter head is popular in the solid wood processing industry, shaped like corn (nicknamed corn knife). But compared with ordinary flat cutterhead, the price of spiral cutterhead is relatively high. Is it worth the money?

Disposable spiral cutter heads with the development of science and technology, discardable spiral cutter heads have gradually replaced traditional flat cutterhead, four-sided wood planers, etc., and in the near future, discarded spiral cutter heads will gradually become popular in the woodworking machinery industry.

The actual use effect also proves that ordinary knives need to be sharpened and changed, and the processing efficiency is low, while one blade of the spiral wood planer cutterhead can use four sides, just simply rotate the screw, which is convenient and fast. Spiral cutterhead have been widely used in the processing of solid wood in Europe and the United States, especially in the processing of large flat solid wood. I dare not say that cutterhead knives completely replace ordinary cutterhead, but in an environment where wood becomes more and more expensive, it is inevitable that spiral cutterheadare widely used.

The traditional flat cutterhead (alloy knife) has the following problems during use:

Blade burn:

If the cutting edge is worn or the feed is temporarily stopped, the cutting heat will cause burnt marks on the cutting surface.

Tool passivation and stability:

When the tool is cutting, the part where the tooth is in contact with the cutting and the workpiece generates heat. At the same time, the heat of the tooth tip spreads the heat to the entire blade and the tool body in the form of heat transfer, and then radiates heat to the surrounding environment. The increase in tool temperature increases the temperature of the cutting edge, increases the speed of tool passivation, and the uneven temperature distribution of the tool body makes the tool lose stability.

Cutting that is prone to tearing:

Because the wood to be processed is hard, when cutting with a flat cutterhead, the area of the hand per unit time is large, and the cutting deformation is easy to form, so the cutting surface cannot achieve a smooth and flat effect.

Difficult chip removal:

The sawdust cut by the flat-end cutterhead is large, and the central dust collection system cannot eliminate the excessively large sawdust, which will affect the processing quality due to the heavy sawdust.

In general, the heat dissipation is not good, the tools are easy to wear and deform, and the wood processing effect is poor.

So that is all ,why more and more woodworking worker change to use spiral cutterhead for their wood planer!
